(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The UK Serious Organised Crime Agency (www.soca.gov.uk) is back online after an attack from hacking group LulzSec (lulzsecurity.com) on Monday.According to a report by Netcraft on Tuesday, SOCA took its website down after a distributed denial of service attack by LulzSec.
SOCA says it took its website offline to reduce the impact on other clients hosted by Connect Internet Solutions (www.connectinternetsolutions.com), the organization's service provider.
The agency was targeted as part of Operation Anti-Security or #AntiSec which was announced on Sunday by LulzSec, according to the report.
LulzSec says the top priority of the operation is to "steal and leak any classified government information, including email spools and documentation. Prime targets are banks and other high-ranking establishments."
While LulzSec says it hacks for the laughs, its attacks have become increasingly more political. LulzSec has attacked other government agencies recently, including the CIA website, a US Senate server and FBI affiliate InfraGard.
LulzSec targeted InfraGard in reaction to the US government's plans to make hacking an act of war.
On Monday, a 19-year-old was arrested in London in connection to the Sony PlayStation Network hack. LulzSec has denied any link to the arrested suspect, though authorities continue to investigate.
