Just like in practically every new fighting game series entries, the latest Soul Calibur game will have a few old fighters missing from its playable roster. There's a reason for it, though. Apparently over half of Soul Calibur V's roster will be composed of all-new characters.
Gaming news blog Destructoid reports that this was confirmed by developer Team Soul at E3 2011. The game will feature between 20 to 30 fighters total. Further details on the game's playable roster have yet to be revealed, and we may stills ee console exclusive fighters similar to what Soul Calibur IV had.
Even though it's at only 15% complete, Soul Calibur V reportedly already runs faster than its predecessors. In addition to the new engine powering the game, Team Soul has also added a "special" gauge that works similar to the "Critical Edge" system from Soul Edge.
Soul Calibur V was originally announced during Namco Bandai's Step Up Dubai 2011 event last month. The game's story will take place seventeen years after the events in Soul Calibur IV and will feature a new main character named Patroklos. Namco Bandai is currently looking at a 2012 release window for the fighting series' latest iteration.
