• Some very smart folks over at PS3-Hacks, have restored PSN access for Kmeaw CFW 3.55 consoles. Currently the method is very technical, and requires that the user possess knowledge regarding SSL certificates and proxies. It is strongly recommended that users wait for a simplified guide before attempting this, unless they possess the technical know-how required.

• Personally I haven’t tried this yet, but it seems promising… This comes from an anonymous fellow who is reporting success on connecting to PSN using PS3 Custom Firmware 3.55 by Kmeaw. So install that first and then follow these steps.
• 
  
• The following assumes you’re technically inclined and/or very resourceful, i.e. you know how to use Google. You’ll likely need to reference Google when it comes to generating/signing a certificate and creating a CA (certification authority). That said lets get started; here we’re using a combination of two tactics:
• 
  
• DNS server trick: Set Primary DNS to 67.202.81.137 under Network Settings
• Simple SSL proxy that basically modifies the headers for outgoing packets to auth.np.ac.playstation.net’s to change “PS3 03.55″ to “PS3 03.56″ — this makes PSN believe the PS3 is using the proper firmware version
• Got it? Now here is how we accomplish tactic #2:
• 
  
• Replacing a SSL cert in the CFW (in /dev_flash/data/cert) with your own CA SSL certificate
• 
  
• Creating an SSL certificate for “auth.np.ac.playstation.net” signed with your CA certificate
• 
  
• Run a DNS server on your machine that resolves auth.np.ac.playstation.net to your PC’s internal IP
• 
  
• Create a Java SSL proxy (basically PS3 <-> PC <-> PSN). The PC claims (to the PS3) that it is “auth.np.ac.playstation.net” and is successfully accepted because a CA signed the SSL certificate
• 
  
• Replace the headers sent PS3 -> PSN to specify “PS3 03.56″
• ChrisTechTV (if it works) they’ll need you for this one man!
•

• SSL creates an encrypted tunnel between two points, a CLIENT and SERVER.
• Every Client and Server must have the same certificates.
• 
  
• There are only 5 or 6 companies that make SSL certificates. When you install a browser, it already comes pre-installed certificates of all such companies, when you make a server that uses SSL certification, the purchase of any of these companies, because the SSL certification is already included in all browsers.
• Each server is directed to a Web page.

• Now let's say you go to your bank's website. The browser makes a connection, and the server responds with its certificate to abcdef.com (example), if you have the appropriate certificate, the connection works.
• 
  
• Operation in the PS3:
• 
  
• The PS3 uses Sony's servers, which only use VeriSign certificates.
• The PS3 use Verisign certificates pre-installed on the system.
• 
  
• The logic of this new hack is to use a "fake server" SSL, but do not have a server certified by Verisign.
• The bypass is to use a false certificate to the Sony server.
• 
  
• What was previously thought that using a proxy was enough for the bypass, but it is not because the PS3 does not accept your certificate proxy, you need a Verisign.
• 
  
• The trick is to change the PS3 client SSL certificate. This data is stored in the dev_flash (internal memory, be it unzipped firmware).
• 
  
• Doing so, the PS3 could connect to a proxy running on a PC, which is passed as the Sony server and gives you the certificate, and even this being false, it makes an intermediary between the PS3 and PSN for all be certified without any problems.
• 
  
• This technique is, to my point of view the CHECKMATE Sony, because it is very dangerous to change certificates using firmware updates, even if they did, access to dev_flash always available!
