QUESTION:
Can you overdose on marijuana if so how?
Answer:
Marijuana and Overdosing
"No. There has never been a documented case of marijuana overdose."In order for a human to consume enough marijuana to be fatal, they would have to consume nearly 40,000 times the amount of THC required to intoxicate them.
In contrast, it only requires about 5 to 10 times the amount of alcohol required to intoxicate, to be fatal.
For example, if it requires 3 beers to intoxicate you, it only requires 15 to 30 beers to kill you. However, if it takes you 3 'hits' of marijuana to intoxicate you, it would require 120,000 hits to kill you. Thus, it is virtually impossible to die of a marijuana overdose.
Further, there is NO peer reviewed scientific evidence that shows that marijuana causes brain damage. There is NO peer reviewed scientific evidence that shows that marijuana damages the reproductive system. There is NO peer reviewed scientific evidence that shows that marijuana is a gateway drug. There is NO peer reviewed scientific evidence that shows that marijuana suppresses the immune system. "
You see. That is the problem......
Additional Input:
- Your answer has spurred me into doing more research (via the web) to determine if any "peer journals" do exist. They do. There are hundreds of journals on marijuana some accredited and some not. Some are just blogs while others, still, are discussion boards. What I've found is that there is practical studies proving the safeness and the harmfulness of the drug depending on which side of the topic they favor. One study says that marijuana use may help when a woman smokes during pregnancy to increase higher functioning children after birth while another states it was directly responsible for causing gum disease in some people who participated in the study.
- The fact that no journal exists to prove or disprove the OD affect for marijuana or THC doesn't prove that someone cannot overdose; it merely means that no unbiased scientists have completed any experiments and medical doctors doing studies have failed to do controlled studies.
- You can overdose on marijuana. It is just not fatal. It will put you to sleep. It is rare that it happens when you smoke it though. It happens more often when you eat it.
- According to a recent story on CNN a 4 year old ate some 3 year old marijuana laced rice krispy treats and nearly DIED, but I believe that story to be more about portraying marijuana as a dangerous drug to justify keeping it an illegal substance.
